I’ve spent my whole life,
as far back as I can remember,
Pretending to everyone
That everything’s fine.
I even denied
my own reality,
Now that really is
the worst kind of gaslighting.
I really believed
This fairy tale story,
That I sold to the world
Was truthful and honest.
Avoidance, denial,
Maladaptive behaviours
All served a purpose -
That I might survive.
Exhaustion and burnout.
Dark void beckoning.
Too hopeless and helpless
To paper the cracks.
Surrender brings peace
An end to resistance.
Held hostage by fear
That I might cease to exist.
The truth brings freedom,
A fresh perspective.
Presence and mindfulness,
Sustainable with practice.
Move onwards and upwards,
Rewrite the ending.
Live life to the full
Reaching highest potential.
